Glow Plug Failure on Cold Inland Empire Mornings

How Glow Plugs Fail

Glow plugs preheat the cylinders so diesel ignites when the engine is cold. They wear out over time, and one seized or broken plug can be a real job to extract. A failing control module can also mimic bad plugs, so we test both before quoting.

• Extended cranking below 50 degrees
• A flashing preheat light or stored glow plug codes
• Rough idle and white smoke until the engine warms
• One or more plugs reading out of resistance range
